The OneCallNow System

The Dover School District is pleased to announce that beginning in December of 2011 we will be using the One Call Now emergency notification system to help keep you informed in the event of a snow-day or other emergency situation.

In the event of a snow day the phone number we have listed as your Primary number will be called to let you know.

In the event of an emergency the system will automatically dial all numbers we have on record in our Student Information System for your student, and then a message will play to apprise you of the situation.

If you wish to specify additional phone numbers to be dialed beyond what we already have on record for your student you may do so by following the instructions above. (Note: This site will also allow you to enter additional email addresses; however, at this time we are not using One Call Now to send email to parents.)

You may opt-out of receiving these phone notifications by one of the following methods; however, opting out means you will not receive phone notifications in the event of an emergency. To opt-out, you may do one of the following:

1. Press the Star Key (*) after listening to your first message.

2. Calling OneCallNow at 1 (877) 698-3262.

3. Going to

The decision to cancel school for the day will typically be made by 6:00 a.m. If weather conditions worsen following a Delayed Opening, an announcement canceling school will be made by 8:00 a.m. School cancellation or "No School" announcements will be made by the radio and TV stations listed above.

Two (2) Hour Delayed Opening

Delayed opening is an alternative to closing school all day. If the decision is to delay the opening of school, the following will occur:

  • An announcement will be made on the radio and TV stations listed above, as well as viaOneCallNow, beginning at approximately 6:00 a.m.
  • If weather conditions do not improve by approximately 8:00 a.m., another announcement will be madeannouncing the cancellation of school for the day.
  • For a delayed opening, bus transportation will start approximately 2 hours later than usual. School starting times are 9:30 a.m. middle school; 9:36 a.m. high school; 10:15 a.m. elementary schools.

Early Dismissal

In very rare instances, conditions may develop during the school day that warrant sending students home early. Whenever possible, this decision will be made by 11:00 a.m. This decision, and dismissal times, will be announced by the methods listed above, and a OneCallNowalert will be sent to all families. Please indicate on your child's Emergency Form any special circumstances related to your child being dismissed early from school. It is important that any changes in those circumstances be communicated to your child's school. Whenever possible, school lunch will be served prior to dismissal.

Emergency Evacuation

In the event of an emergency evacuation, an announcement will be made by the radio and TV stations listed above, and a OneCallNow alert will be sent to all families. If students have been evacuated to a safe location, you will be notified where and when to pick up your children. Children will only be released to parents/guardians or an authorized adult. If children are dismissed directly from school, you will be notified of the time of the dismissal. Children will travel home in their customary manner (walk, bus, or picked up by an authorized person). As with early dismissal, it is important to indicate on your child's Emergency Form any special circumstances related to your child being dismissed early from school.

We ask that you do not call the school, but tune into the radio and TV stations listed above. It is very important that the telephone lines are available for emergency purposes. We also recomend that you designate one family member as the "Pick-up Parent" in an effort to not cause unnecesary traffic congestion resulting from multiple adults attempting to pick up a student.

Additional suggestions

Please note: If you are planning a family vacation at the end of the school year, please do not schedule your vacation until after June 21st. Our calendar contains a five-day window that extends the school-year schedule each day lost due to school cancellation.
